The new season 2012-2013

International jazz seasons starts by the concert tour of young NYC singer Jazzmeia Horn and Ark Ovrutski orchestra.Musicians from 4 countries –USA,Finland,Israel and Ukraine- are participating in this project.

Jazzmeia Horn has a name that speaks for itself, capturing her very essence. Jazz is a passionate vocalist from Dallas, Texas; where she attended the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Currently, attending The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, Jazzmeia continues to receive accolades from top critics and musicians alike. Her soulful sound and understanding of the jazz idiom has earned her comparisons of classic vocalists, like Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, and Teri Thornton. Her abundant talent can only be matched by her dedication, work ethic, and desire for continual growth.

When Jazz listens to a song she doesn’t want to just jam to a good tune, she wants to be emotionally moved. “When John Coltrane swings it feels so good. It’s like the feeling you get when a certain spot on your back itches that you can't reach and someone scratches it for you. Or the feeling you get after coming to rest after a long day. Sometimes you have to cry. Trane does that to me” -Jazz Horn

Some of her influences include Sarah Vaughan, Carmen Mc Rae, Nat Adderley, Nancy Wilson, Billie Holiday, Teri Thornton, Bobby McFerrin, Betty Carter, Thelonious Monk, Andy Bey, John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, Cannonball Adderley, Branford Marsalis, Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Reeves, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Roy Hargrove, Nina Simone, Roger Boykin, Dizzy Gilesby, Miles Davis, Esperanza Spaulding, Cassandra Wilson…

Horn plans to get a Masters Degree and a Doctoral Degree in which the school she will choose remains undecided. She also plans to be teaching workshops, clinics, camps, and private lessons all over the globe.
